I recently purchased the attached GEIC covers from Tarawa to Funafuti, both posted toward the end of WWII. The commercial covers speak for themselves; however it is the addressee that interests me. Not only was Fiatau Penitala Teo the first native to hold office in the colony, he was the first Governor General of Tuvalu after independence in 1978. The greatest interest to me is that he was my wife's Grandfather! He died in 1998.

I met Mr. Teo in 1978 while he was Governor General, and he signed some Tuvalu Independence first day covers for me.

Interestingly, both covers appeared within a month of each other, from different sellers on different continents.

Congratulations for getting these covers, Brian!
Good commercial covers which additionally have a pedigree cannot be beaten!

Thanks Roland. That is one thing great about online auctions, you get to see much more illustrations than we saw in most postal auction catalogues. Like most collectors, I have been on mailing lists for many years, and many covers have been described without the name of the addressee or an illustration. To think what may have slipped by...

Hopefully more members will find the usefulness of this forum.

BTW, your New Hebrides and Solomon Islands websites are great!
